Hi.

Hey. Hey there.

It's been a while, huh?

I decided last winter that I would take a break from beauty blogging. At first it was just because I had found myself not wearing as much makeup as I used to (and consequently, not buying as much either), but as time went on, I realized some things about how I feel about beauty and the industry. (You can read those thoughts in detail over here on my personal blog.)

To make a long story short: I didn't feel like there was a place for me in beauty blogging. I've been doing it for years and years, but here I am, on the verge of turning 35, and it's quite apparent that the beauty industry (or at least, beauty social media) doesn't give too many hoots about fat people of color who are no longer in their twenties. (I'm not saying they don't give ANY hoots, because they do throw us a bone every now and then. But we kinda have to fight for those scraps.)

But since writing the above blog post and hearing from my friends, many of whom share at least one of those physical attributes with me (race, body type, or age group), I've been thinking maybe that this is WHY I shouldn't stop blogging. That maybe I SHOULD stick around on the interwebs, because there might be someone out there who JUST wants to find some inspiration from someone who looks just like them.

I mean, that's why I started beauty blogging in the first place. I'm not here trying to be the trendiest in styles, the most up-to-date on releases, or even remotely the prettiest face. I'm simply here because I love makeup and I just don't feel represented by any major brand or beauty media outlet: I'm too old, I'm too fat, I'm too plain, and I'm just not that interested in highlighter that can send signals across an ocean.

But I do love makeup and what it can do for an average person like me, so I'm going to keep this space for me and for other people like me.

So, I will keep posting. This blog is coming back. Not with a bang, or anything, and definitely not with a whimper, but with a joyous little shout that says, "Hey! I belong here too!"

I hope you will join me (here and on Instagram) as I keep exploring beauty products. I really appreciate your readership.

Love,
Thu

Me: plain, simple, and actually LOVING the ABH Subculture palette!
